Make Up Your Mind

Last night, one of my students in the Career Coach Entrepreneur Academy asked me if I believe in New Year’s resolutions. I firmly responded “no”. Upon reflection, that’s not accurate. I enter 2026 having made some important decisions that I am firmly committed to. And I am using my resolve to follow through to completion.
A decision is the act or process of choosing among options. It is the product of thinking and judgment. In my case, I’ve decided to transition my company from an S Corp to an LLC. This means I no longer run payroll (or pay for a payroll service), simplify my tax payments, and generally streamline my operations.
Unfortunately, this change also generates a lot of busy work I hate to do. Here’s where the resolution comes in. A resolution is a formal expression or firm commitment that follows a decision. So, I am diligently opening new bank accounts, canceling insurance, and updating a slew of auto payments that flow into my checking accounts—well, you get my drift—lots of minutiae.
Perhaps the reason so many New Year’s resolutions end up fading away is the lack of a decision up front. Ask yourself, what do you want to accomplish, and why are you doing it? Determine if you have the energy and resources to follow through on your commitment. Think clearly about the sacrifices you will need to make to reach your goals. Then, let your rock-solid resolution kick in.
Please accept my sincere wish that your 2026 is filled with joy and great decisions, fueled by resolutions. Let’s do this๐๐
